About Shubunkin Goldfish - Assorted Colours

Shubunkin are part of the Goldfish family - the world’s most popular aquarium fish, for its beautiful scales and ease of care. Shubunkin Goldfish are a hardy fish, excellent for beginners. They have a long flowing tail with two tips, come in assorted colours, and make an excellent addition to your aquarium or pond.

Goldfish were originally cultivated in China over 1000 years ago, and over the centuries, have been developed into many different types all over the world. The Shubunkin variant was first bred in Japan over a hundred years ago. They are shaped like Comet Goldfish, with a forked flowing tail and scales in varied calico patterns of red, white, silver and blue.

Shubunkin Goldfish make peaceful tankmates, and are traditionally a schooling fish that do well when kept in small groups rather than solo. When combining Shubunkin with other fish, keep in mind that they are very active, which means slower swimmers may struggle to compete with them for food.

We recommend feeding your Shubunkin Pisces Goldfish Pellets or Flakes. Spirulina Flakes and Algae Wafers will provide valuable variety to their diet. We’ve found that Shubunkin, like all Goldfish, enjoy eating Duckweed, which is easy to grow in your aquarium and is available from Scapeshop.com.au.

These cold water fish thrive in water temperatures ranging from 8-23 degrees celsius, and as they produce lots of waste, we recommend good filtration and plenty of plants to oxygenate and clean the water, as well as enriching their lives and supplementing their diets.

With a hardy constitution, interesting unique patterns and long, flowing tails, Shubunkin make a striking showpiece for your aquarium.
