Bettas originated in Thailand, and were first domesticated over a 1,000 years ago. Initially bred for their beauty as well as for competitive fighting, Bettas have found popularity all over the world for their unique flowing fins, dazzling colours and intelligent active behaviour.

These Halfmoon Bettas represent a range of Betta subspecies that have been bred to enhance certain qualities - emphasising distinctive colours, and tail fins that open up to form a beautiful semi-circular shape similar to the half-moon from which they get their name.
These female Halfmoon Bettas are 5cm long, come in a range of colours and have smaller, neater fins than the male Halfmoons.

Male Bettas are famously territorial and aggressive and cannot be kept together in the one tank. However female Bettas are generally less aggressive. They can be kept in a sorority of multiple females within the one aquarium, even peacefully cohabiting with other fish and invertebrates, provided there is sufficient space. Be sure to avoid keeping your female Half Moon Bettas with fin-nipping fish.

We recommend feeding your Halfmoon Bettas Pisces Betta Fish Pellets or Micro Pellets for enhanced nutrition, scale colour, and improved digestion to minimise waste.

Fighter fish prefer warmer water temperatures ranging from 22-26 degrees celsius, so you may require a heater for colder Australian winters. We recommend good filtration for your Half Moon Female Bettas, but without a strong current as they prefer slower-moving water. Add some live plants for water quality as well as to provide places for your Betta to hide, making sure not to block their access to the surface of the water.
