Barramundi
Lates calcarifer
The name barramundi" originates from the Durambal tribe of Rockhampton, meaning "large-scaled river fish". A popular table fish and a trophy among anglers, Barramundi are also an excellent display in large aquariums. Keep in mind that their aggressive nature precludes them from sharing their aquarium with most tankmates. Try starting them off with a similar sized native catfish, such as a tandanus or salmon tail, and they should grow along well together.
Barramundi are a fascinating predatory fish, and are best kept on live food, such as feeder goldfish, feeder guppies, crayfish and live insects such as crickets and mealworms. The will become part of the family and love a routine - they know when it is dinnertime.
