These mouth-brooding cichlids are endemic to Lake Malawi in Africa and look their best when kept in a large Malawi community tank with sandy substrate. 

They can vary greatly in size and colour and should be matched appropriately with other Malawi cichlids.

A sandy substrate with plenty of rocks and caves can help them to feel at home. Avoid keeping them with other species of fish. They can be kept with other similar-sized African Cichlids. Take care when introducing new fish to an established aquarium. 

They can be territorial especially during breeding.

Grow to 10-12cm in size.
